Duty Free

Hi All, Great to get in the mood for Bali bu reading some TA posts - 8 nights in Ubud coming up - only 5 more days at work, a few days at home then we%26#39;re off. I%26#39;ve read a few posts about alcohol and I just have a couple of questions.

Is is best to still buy alcohol duty free before we leave oz or are you able to buy it on arrival?

If so, which is cheapest - Oz or Bali?

Coming home from Bali, again should be preorder to pick up in Adelaide or can we purchase at Denpasar?

Lastly, can we buy cigarettes duty free in Bali and are they cheaper than oz? They were last time but not sure on the current situation?

Any help is most welcome.

Thanks

Duncan

Duty Free

There is a duty free shop on arrival , only a small shop and i have herd prices are comparable to Aus .

Who are you flying home with ??? Im not sure if jetstar have changed their ways yet or not , no-one has given an update , but you cant carry alcohol on jetstar flights and you can%26#39;t put it in your check in luggage as duty free is after check in .

( please let us know if anyone has an update on jetstar policy now )

Bali only has limited smokes .... if your not fussy on what you smoke , buy them in the supermarkets , they are cheaper .....if you are fussy , at duty free i think the only Aussie smokes you can buy are marlborough and winfield gold ....( going by memory , anyone please correct me if I am wrong )

I smoke horizons at home yet in bali i buy kansas blue ...... about $8 a carton of 200 .

Duty Free

Thanks Battling.

Flying with virgin pacific blue.

As for smokes they%26#39;re not for me (a family member)- Superkings are the smokes of choice so we normally try and get them while we%26#39;re OS.

Ta

LOL

sorry , I don%26#39;t know about either of them , although , superkings does ring a bell , just not sure if that bell is in bali ...LOL

hopefully someone else can answer you ...

cheers

So, is there a small duty free shop in the arrivals area of Bali where you can buy ciggies after you land? If so, any idea of price?

Also, what currencies are accepted at the airport? Will £stirling be OK, or do we need to make sure we have $US or Indoniesian Rupiyah?

Hi there,

I understand that the alcohol policy thing is not a JetStar policy but a generic air travel policy. So long as the Duty Free store is before the security check you should be ok. Best to check with your departure airport I guess.

Cheers,

Sharon

Mobor One

If you have a credit card , it would be better to use that ...you will be charged in USD , but they will convert it for you if you want to use sterling.

I have never used this duty free shop , so im not totally up to date with how it works only telling you what i have read about it .

jetstar will not let you carry on duty free alcohol ( well they didn%26#39;t last year , there was talk of this changing though ) other airlines will allow you to take it in a sealed duty free bag ...they will deliver it to your departure gate so that it can%26#39;t be tampered with , but jetstar don%26#39;t even allow this .( or didn%26#39;t )

Not quite sure what the policy is these days , perhaps someone who has recently used jetstar can enlighten us all as to whether they have changed this ruling now or not ????

cheers

Is it possible to buy rolling tobacco in Bali? If not duty free then anywhere else. I%26#39;m not a fan of tailors. Am i allowed to bring a couple of pouches in my luggage from Melbourne??

I flew Virgin Blue back into Adelaide in December. Purchased duty free before leaving at Bali airport. No problems. I had enquired with Virgin Blue via their call centre before leaving Adelaide. I think the duty free in Bali may be a bit cheaper. I bought a litre bottle of Vodka on the way in in December and it cost rp210,000

Bali Virgin, Drum is readily available. I think they are 30 gram pouches for about A$1 or so. Not sure if filters are available. The papers are super fine and some I bought to take home for someone else had no gum!

David
