Puncak/Bandung

I will be visiting Puncak late May and I will like to go to Bandung after a night stay. Is it easy to get transport from Puncak to Bandung? Any idea how is the charges? I also need to engage a car/driver to take me to Puncak upon arrival at Jakarta airport. Are there any kiosk at the airport arrival terminal that I can engage a car/driver to take me to Puncak? And how much will be the charges? Will be greatly appreciated to anyone who can assist me.

Puncak/Bandung

Puncak is a resort area and it is best if you can get a personal driver for your whole Jakarta-Puncak-Bandung trip.

There are various car rental counters (some offered car rental with driver) in the airport arrival hall. The charges might depend on the rent term (city use or going out of town, per hour or daily use, etc).

Some counters you can enquire: Golden Bird www.bluebirdgroup.com, Cipaganti car rental www.cipaganti.co.id, Hertz, etc.

To be used for going out of town with driver, it usually charge around Rp700,000-Rp1,000,000

I suggest to call/contact them directly as each company has different rental scheme.

Puncak/Bandung

i suggest to take one of the reputable rental comnpany in the airport. Avis, Blue Bird has their counter over there. Do not take any offer from the illegal ';taxi'; driver who will be taunting you once you are clear from the baggage claim

You can rent the car in daily basis inclusive driver. You can check with Blue Bird http://www.bluebirdgroup.com/ for more info. They are operating the car rental under Golden Bird brand

Terima kasih Cirque and Verdim

Blackie,

i will go to Bandung and jakarta this end of march.

as per my indonesian friends advice - i had use Total Rental service car. www.totaltravel.info

For 4 days with Total Rental : they quote me IDR2,350,000 for Inova.

Include: car (driver, petrol, parking, toll, driver’s meals.

Exclude: any entrance tickets to tourism area, guest expenses/meals

The journey is from Jakarta Hotel to bandung then on last day..they will drop me at Jakarta hotel.

This journey also include my trip to Punchak and Taman Safari.

Wow! You guys are obviously not watching the bottom line. It is easy to take bus from the Airport to any of the towns in Puncak. First decide which town you prefer to stay in. Cibodas is my favourite because it has the beautiful Botanic Gardens,a good shopping arcade (Brasco), a waterfall and commanding views of Mount Gede. It also has lots of other shops and restaurants. Getting around is easy as there are lots of angkuts that ply the area. Figure on paying Rp 3000 per person per trip.

From the main road, there are loads of buses that will take you to Bandung. I can%26#39;t imagine it will cost more than Rp 40 000 per person.

from Bandung, consider taking the scenic train ride back to hot steaming Jkt.( Rp 40 000)

Tip, try not to be in Puncak or Bandung on the weekend. No discounts and hordes of Jakartans on holiday!!!

to be frank, I never seen any bus from airport to any point in puncak. Yes, there is bus direct to Bandung BUT it is not passing Puncak area but through the toll road... I don%26#39;t know how craneboywill get the idea from.

Also to take the angkut (angkot?) which means small city van is very much inconvenience for tourists I believe (comfort and safety wise)

I still believe and agree with cirque. Renting car is the best option

Talking about convenient and ease VS cheapness and discomfort waiting for public buses...

Verdims%26#39; and my solutions work for the first case. While backpackers (or those clueless about transport scheme in Indonesia and don%26#39;t care how much it will take as long as they can reach destination) can happy-go-lucky with craneboywill%26#39;s solution...

I would like to thank all of you for your suggestions. Looks like I have to engage a van plus driver for the first two days. I do appreciated all your assistance

No problem. It%26#39;s always a pleasure to share experiences with other travellers...

Ps. The Damri bus goesto Kampung Rambutan. From there, there are loads of buses that will go to Ciawi ,and the other towns along the main trunk rd. From Puncak, all buses will go to either Bandung or Sukabumi via Cianjur. I have done it myself. That%26#39;s where I got the idea from.

Having said that, it is infinitely more convenient to get to Puncak by your own rented transport. Easier by public transport when you are already in Puncak and want to make your way to Bandung. The trip by aircon bus from Puncak to Bandung is Rp 18 000 per person.
