hi, is it worthwhile going over to nusa lembongan for a day trip.
i know that scoot boats can get us over there and back on the same day, but is it easy to walk around on the island.
it seems to be a smallish size island a bit like granite island in south australia. is this the case? thanks. daz.
is ti worthwhile going to nusa lembongan?
Hi dazAdelaide
I guess i depends on who you talk to.We did not think much of it, but glad i have been there done that now.Guess it%26#39;s okay if you want to %26#39;chill%26#39; out and get away from Bali for a couple of days, surf or want to snorkel.Bigger than Granite island,it will take you a while to walk around the whole island!!but you can walk to some parts.Best to hire a motor bike or pay a local to take you around. We %26#39;hired%26#39; a young guy named %26#39;Ben%26#39; and his dad to take us around.Really great guy and we saw the whole island.Found Ben as we came off Scoot boat and walked up the beach toward Scoot boat office, Had just been speaking with the guy who had push bikes and motor bikes for hire,(the only one)I%26#39;d prefer to do the Scoot Boat than the big Cats.(Scoot boat only takes about 15passengers and it%26#39;s a good trip across, tip! sit at front of boat)
Cheers

is ti worthwhile going to nusa lembongan?
thanks burns, we just want to have the day there to experience as much of the different ways of life in bali as we can. from what i have read about this island it seems to be more relaxed than most other parts of bali. daz.
dont try to walk around the whole of the island... too far. there is a coastal walk around the cliffs that is interesting or walk along the road where the boat lands or along the beach to the north. take water with you though in spots there are places to eat and drink.
thanks for the replies guys have read a bit more about the island in our rough guide travel book and it says that the main occupation on the island is seaweed havesting.
can you see this being done or is it out to sea where you cant easily watch?
thanks. daz.
You can see the seaweed farming (harvesting) along the shoreline. When it is low tide, you can wade through the seaweed and watch what they are doing....we did this up near where shipwrecks is...but make sure you have old joggers on (or booties)thongs are a bit hard to manage and I wouldn%26#39;t suggest going barefoot. Too many sea urchins..ouch. Some of the star fish that we had seen were also amazing.
Hi daz
My husband and I recently had two fantastic nights on Lembongan. Yes it is very laid back, but still plenty of water sport options, you can hire a scooter if you want to explore further around the island or just walk as we did. We caught the Scoot boat from Sanur and stayed at Tanis Villas but there are plenty of other hotels especially in Mushroom Bay offering good accomodation. We liked the look of Mushroom Cottages, on the clifftop overlooking the bay and would stay there next time. Or there is Coconuts? Tide Hai Huts, also very nice. We especially loved the island late afternoon when most of the daytrippers had left. We ate some of the best and freshest seafood there.
Cheers

I think it%26#39;s extremely worthwhile to visit Nusa Lembongan! I usually stay there for a few days and love the laid-back atmospehere compared to the busy coastal areas of Bali. The water is crystal clear, it%26#39;s great for diving and snorkelling, there is a great coastal walk that takes you from the main village to Mushroom Bay, you can watch the locals and see the seaweed farms and dione at the local restaurants.
Hey Deb
If you see this, where did you eat the good seafood? Will be going next month and any restaurant recommendations would be great.
Cheers
Robyn
