American Express Travellers checks

Are these hard to cash at the airport or in Ubud? Can anyone give me the names of the banks that will cash them? The Amex site only have a few places outside the airport and I am going from airport straight to Ubud. Thanks.

i take american express travellers cheques and have cash them with the money changers along monkey forst road. never had a problem cashing them there or other parts of bali.

While TC are no problem you should be aware (if you aren%26#39;t already) that you will get lower rates for them than cash.

why travellers chq? would take cash. you loose to much money all round using TC.

i take tc as another source of money exchange in case one is lost or stolen. eg visa, cash, atm.

the rate is lower for tc to cash but only by a few hundred rupiah.

the other benefit is if they get stolen/lost they are covered by american express.

finally, most travel insurance only covers for $500 cash.

finally finally, AETC are issued for free in australian PO%26#39;s.

Also handy if your bank blocks your card for a fraud check or something, so you can still get money while waiting on hold to contact the bank.

I use a little tour office at the top of Monkey Forest Road for travellers cheque exchange, can%26#39;t remember the name unfortunately.

probably, as usual, we used the same guy in ubud. an old guy about half from top of street and the soccer field on the right side of the road as you are walking down the street.
