4 Days 3 nites in Bali and NEED HELP

Hello folks,

After reading about 30 pages/threads, i decide to post these questions for your comments, feedback and suggestion.

There was accor hotels super sales from 24-26 Feb and I managed to get All Season in Legion for USD43. Is it a good price to pay? What%26#39;s the hotel like? I will not believe the ads... I prefer to hear from others who actually have been there.

Assuming that we (read wife and I) proceed to stay for 4 days and 3 nites in All Season Legion, what are the things that we are able to do? Main agenda to Bali is to relax. We would like to do the followings:

1. Spa and massage (can someone give some indicative price in IDR?

2. Food... we would like to taste local dishes (we are muslims, so halal is a must)

3. read books by the beach, wat sunset (any place u recommend?)

4. Watch some cultural show (kecak and/or barongan?)

5. Shopping

I also heard that Ubud is a must. I do not know.. we are not into mountain escapade that much.. but a day or two is acceptable. So, we think that we might use legian as our base, rent a car and move around. Is Ubud doable for day trip (to do spa, watch the dances, etc).

What is it like driving there? Are the roads well lit at nite?

Like i said earlier, this is just a preliminary plan... I am open for suggestion. I dont read lonely planet books anymore as i believe my fellow TAs are more well versed and helpful! This has proven to be true for my trips to various parts of the world.

Rough budget:

Hotel: USD 40-60 per nite

Food: USD 20 for two pax per day

Spa: Please advise what are the prices like?

Car rental: IDR125.000 per day

Cheers to all...

Matt

spas and massages have prices out the front of the shop.

there are halal food but you will need to be careful if it is not stated outside the restaurant as pork is very popular in bali

kuta, sanur and nusa dua beaches are nice to sit on and watch the world go by. there are a lot of sellers.

lots of tour agents or hotel can recommend the nearest dance.

shopping everywhere

Please do another search of the forum about self-driving in Bali. You will find heaps of posts on this and the overwhelming opinion is DON';T. Hire a driver and avoid the stress. But your budget for car hire will have to be reviewed. I doubt that you could hire a car for a day for only 125,000IDR.

1. Spa and massage - depends where you go and what you have. I paid 60000Rp for a 1 hour massage in Ubud in a little local massage shop, then paid 120000RP for a 1 and a half hour massage in a spa in a hotel.

2. You won%26#39;t have problems getting Halal food.

3. For sunset you%26#39;re looking at the west coast, so a sunset seafood dinner at Jimbaran is nice, as is sunset at Tanah Lot. I personally like Discovery Mall in Kuta at sunset, there%26#39;s a bit of live music and the Japanese tourists clap as the sun goes down, as if it was a show especially for them. Very special.

4. Kecak and Fire dance, you can see this if you%26#39;re on your day trip to Ubud.

5. Depends what you%26#39;re shopping for, but there are markets in Legian, or head down to Kuta to Discovery Mall or Matahari, or the shops around Kuta Square. There are little boutique shops in Seminyak along Jalan Raya Legian which are nice, although can be expensive.

Ubud isn%26#39;t particularly mountainous, more hilly, it%26#39;s basically a collection of artist villages and temples in one large sprawl. I%26#39;m a dedicated beach bum and wasn%26#39;t interested in Ubud, but now can%26#39;t get enough of the place, it%26#39;s got a laid back spiritual charm and natural beauty. You can do a day trip, maybe go in the afternoon, hit the shops there, have a foot massage, some dinner in one of the many fine restaurants, then catch a dance show. If then you like it and return to Bali, you could easily spend a few days there, it%26#39;s a very good base.

Roads in the towns are well lit, as are the highways, but otherwise it can be dark on a night. I%26#39;d personally hire a driver, they%26#39;re not expensive.

Someone was looking for a Lonely Planet book the other day on the forum, maybe you can give them yours? :)

thanks folks! your views and suggestion is greatly appreciated.. it also made me change my plan.

I decide to spend my 4 days in Ubud - staying in Tegalsari or Greenfield. Any comments or experience with the two places that you might wanna share?

thanks a lot.

Matt

If you stay at the Tegal Sari, please reconfirm your booking bofre you get there. I helped an wmployee of mine book a room there 3 weeks ago. I watched him make the booking on his computer in our office, I saw the confirmation email he printed out, but when they arrived there, there was no record of their booking. They did find him a room at the property next door, but it was disappointing, as he only booked there on a recommendation from me.
