Virgin Blue Excess Baggage Allowance!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all ,

Have just got off the phone to Virgin checking re price/kg over allowance of 20kg.I was totally shocked as the price per kilo over depends from where you are flying from and to .

The price for virgin, Bali back to Australia is $15 /KG not $15 AUD but $15US which EQUATES TO $23 AUD /KG couldn%26#39;t believe it!!!!!!!!!!

When we were in Bali last April we went on-line on Jetstar who were flying with and could purchase 5kg or 10kg extra for about $5 /kg i can%26#39;t rememeber the exact amount .

Virgin said you can%26#39;t do on-line have to do it at book-in at the airport and you pay per kg not in 5 or 10kg lots .

Is there anyone who has just come back with Virgin ?

Thanks Sue

Virgin Blue Excess Baggage Allowance!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi. Thanks for the warning. Most excess luggage from BALI ins US$ denominated (but Aussie for Aust) including Garuda. I am looking at flying to Bali VB - how did you find them? Did you purchase the extra leg-rrom seat and if so was it worth it? Cheers,Stu

Virgin Blue Excess Baggage Allowance!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mooloolaba, if you think you are going to go right over your allowance, why don%26#39;t you post some home either by sea mail or using EMS.

Cheapest way I have found is Sea mail which is also the slowest and possibly the least safe way. (the info I have indicates AUD $60 - $70 for 20 kg).

EMS which is electronic mail service is quick, trackable and is usually delivered within 7 - 10 days. If you are not home it gets delivered to your closest Post Office for collection and you can track it on the internet with the track number so you know what day it arrives. Check out the website at http://ems.posindonesia.co.id/tarifems.html

I worked out that it was $US 152 for 20 kg = $US7.60 kg so about half the excess baggage price on VB.

Also I have read (and I will check it out this time in Bali) near the check in, at the airport there are two or three offices which advertise freight services. They apparently charge at about half the rate of excess luggage. Whatever you send may not go on the same plane, and may be a few days later arriving.

I thought these freight places could be a good way to deal with the potential excess. IE, Pack what you might think is going to be excess in a separate bag or two. See if/what you are allowed to check in without penalty. Any excess take over in the extra bag/bags the freight offices and send at half the rate (and comparable to EMS).

mailing goods back is the cheapest option. take your shopping to any post office and they will pack and arrange postage. 20kg is the max weight per parcel. i sent 2 parcels

1 x 10kg for 256, 939rp

1 x 20kg for 427, 538rp

they charged an additional 80,000rp per package to provide all boxes, fumigation, packaging and to wrap the items for me.

this was by sea mail (slowest) but the items are delivered to your door and the price includes insurance. you can track where your parcel is as well. you can pay more for a faster service.

airlines charge far too much for excess luggage.

Hi, iam heading over next week flying virgin. was your fight ok. have been 4 other times to bali had to fly from sydney but now there flying out of brisbane thats heaps better just hope all goes well. Will let you know about baggage as i come home full two bags so that will pee me off.Cheers Judi .We love bali is unreal place.Stayed at Padma twice and leigan and mandira all great.

$15 a KG. you got off light. Cathay Bali to Melbourne is $55/kg via Hong Kong payment required.

Cathay is a joke, seats are narrow (1 person stood up for 8 hours as the seats are too narrow) and 20kg limit are going to get people paying ow baggage

$23/AUD a KG .. thats much cheaper than the $55/kg !! cathay wants for OW baggage fee from bali-%26gt;hk-%26gt;aust

hi we returned 2 weeks ago and gues what they tried to charge us excess bagage off125 us dollors at the airport .we new we wher geting riped off as we weighed our lugage at the hotel befor we left it. app 6kilo over not the amount they wanted .so we stood our grounds with them and as luck was with us we had a set off fish scales in our bag so i got it out and yes i was only 6 kilos over.a supervisor came over and said sorry we will only charge you for 6 kilo or said rearange your bag and lighten it to reduce the weight witch we did.lucky we allways carry a light fold up bag in our check in bagage and gues what we where told thats beter and did not have to pay the excess bagage so it makes me wonder how many people are over charged at the airport or is it another scam . iff you look at your ticket it said 23 kilo limit but in bali they say no 20 kilo limit so there is 3 kilo difrence to start with .we showed them the fine print and they said bad luck only 20 kilo limet in bali but the fine print said 23 kilo limit may be virgin is to blame . ps take a set off portable scales with you when you travel they weigh nothing and cost 8 dollors at any camping store and will save you heapes in trying to be charged excess bagage fees ..kobrob

Flying Pacific Blue next week we have been told 20kg checked luggage and 7 kg carry on. hopefully the hotel will have scales to check before we leave. I will also be carrying a real big handbag!!!
