For those who recently visited Bali, any driver to recommend

Hey Guys

I will be in Bali for a week in March and would like to hire a driver for a day.

Itinerary would most consist of sights around Ubud area plus Kintamani

Been reading lots abt the drivers recommened here and dean came up tops. Unfortunately he%26#39;s booked and he recommended another driver from his team Wayang Lia.

Would like to know if anyone hired him before?

Would also like to hear from those that recently hired drivers in bali.

What would be a reasonable daily rate? USD 40?

I%26#39;m looking for a driver that drives safe, speaks good english and doesnt try to rip with off.

I was extremely pleased with Sila. He has a nice comfortable air conditioned SUV. He%26#39;s a safe driver, and a great guy!

Hi Dean is very popular and a very good choice. Even though he is booked i recommend you consider Wayan Lia. I have used Dean and his drivers and could not fault their service. You will be happy with wayan Lia. Dean only chooses drivers who deliver the same service he offers and Wayan Lia is one of them.

We have just returned from 11 days in beautiful Seminyak. We were given the a name of a driver by friends and he turned out to be the best find. He helped us arrange our activities as well as became a friend to our teenage kids and everyone fell in love with him. He has fantastic English skills and knowledge his name is Wisma mob within Bali ph 81338600825.When we arrived back in Melbourne we realized we had left something in Bali and a text back to Wisma had it sent to us by post. It arrived safely today and he expected no money for the postage...that is how good this driver is!. We ended up loving every minute of this wonderful place because of the great activities that we were exposed to by Wis! He also has 2 brothers who are drivers as well so when the nine of us in the travelling group split off into different activites we could go off confidently knowing the driving was all kept in the family. My teenage kids went with Wis to do whitewater rafting and his brother took us to Ubud for the day. We found him trustworthy, kind and very cheap. 350,000 rup for the day for local driving. he tracked down jewellers for us as recommended by other TAs and rang the shops to make sure they were open so we didn%26#39;t waste our time. A fantastic driver!

We are also in Bali during March for our honeymoon and managed to get Dean for his last two available days... was lucky with that one! We have also booked Wayan Lia who was recommended by Dean for 3 other days. We are using Dean and Wayan for day tours during each of our hotel transfers as well as two other full days, better than paying the same amount to a travel agent for a direct transfer!

Im sure they will both be great and we are really looking forward to our bali experience.

He speaks good English, has a great sense of humour, drives carefully and he really looked after us during our stay. He charges a very reasonable rate and we highly recommend his services. Went to bali end of last year, used a guy named Ketut he was great ,nice new susuki van all insured , not many drivers are ,then you are not covered either.Be careful. We were on Holiday in Bali from England in Oct/Nov 08 and booked our driver through Ta recommendations. We had Dean for 1 day and then Wayan Lia for the rest of our trips for the 3weeks we were there. He is a fabulous person.speaks very good english. very knowledgeable about the island,would help you to plan your itinery not taking you anywhere that you do not wish to go,also he would advise you of places of interest not in a guide book.He is a very punctual and honest person,who would Never rip anyone off,you would always feel safe while he was driving. Wayan also has a great sense of humour.I would highly recommend Wayan for your driver. We are returning to Bali again in Oct/Nov 09 and have booked him again

Adam, I was interested in your comment about Ketut having insurance. I have looked at a few drivers%26#39; websites and they haven%26#39;t mentioned being insured. How do you know if your driver is actually insured or not? I guess most of the guys on the street calling out ';Transport'; are NOT insured!

What, exactly, do you think you will be covered for???

Just curious. I%26#39;ve never heard of any tourist being covered for anything, other than your own personal travel insurance.

If the driver hasn%26#39;t got insurance for himself, will this affect you?

Again, curious. I%26#39;d be interested to know.
