currency..

hi, just wondering if one can get hold of indonesian rupiahs in the uk..where would I get them from ? thanks.

currency..

This is probably not a good idea. The rate you would get would not be good at all.

You%26#39;re better off getting a prepaid debit card and use an ATM in the airport. You will need 25 USD per person for your VOA, but you can use Sterling but don%26#39;t expect to get good rates from your change.

currency..

You%26#39;ll get a better rate of exchange in Bali. There are moneychangers %26amp; ATM';s at the airport.Otherwise you can order foreign currency through your bank or a post office. As previously mentioned take USD$25 for the visa on arrival.You%26#39;ll also need to put aside 150,000 IDR for departure tax whilst you%26#39;re in Bali.

For the Visa on arrival you can use US$ if you want to go to the trouble to get them before you leave or you can use euros or pounds and receive change in rupiah. Use larger notes if using euro or pounds.

Cheers,

David

Your best advice is to take large denomination british pounds and change to rupiah at local Kodak money exchange or bank.

This will save in charges by your bank or foreign money excahger who will also only give a poor rate of exchange.

As listed in many other posts avoid money changers on the streets of bali who offer higher than normal ( ie Kodak shops or banks) as they will always try to rip you off.

Good luck and have a great holiday

thanks a lot for the info..I,ll probably use ATMs.

If you use ATMs remember you still need cash for VOA. Also remember that most ATMs dispense only up to 1 million rupiah at a time and the transaction fee is charged each time so it works out at a fairly hefty percentage. There are some ATMs which dispense up to 3 mill but you have to find them. Beware also that some machines need a 6 digit pin, or at least that was the case when I had my card swallowed by such a machine in 2005 due to my card only having a 4 digit pin! I have learnt since to put 00 in front of a 4 digit pin, but best to verify that with your bank before you try it. If you do decide to use the ATMs it may pay to take some back up cash in case of card loss, theft or machine malfunction.

Cheers,

David
