Ahmed Coast

Can anyone give me any information on the Ahmed coast. Is it a good area to spend a couple of days exploring. Is it very touristy or more laid back local style. What other part of Bali would it compare with. We have done numerous trips to Ubud,Lovina, Kintamani and have stayed all over Kuta, Tuban and Ulu%26#39;s but never done the east coast. Any tips of budget accommodation to stay at (preferably with pool).

Ahmed Coast

Hi,

Amed is uncommercialised, the local people are very friendly %26amp; welcoming. It%26#39;s my favourite place to chill out %26amp; relax. Very few shops %26amp; no ATM%26#39;s.

It stretches for approx 15km along the east coast %26amp; is made up of a series of bays/beaches. The main industries in the area are fishing %26amp; sea salt. In some parts you%26#39;ll see colourful jukungs (fishing boats) lined up along the beach.

It%26#39;s great for diving %26amp; snorkelling, in fact you can snorkle directly off the beach. The beach in Amed village is mainly black volcanic sand with some pebbles %26amp; as you get towards Lipah %26amp; Lean at the other end of Amed it becomes more golden sand with flecks of grey.

It%26#39;s nothing like Tuban, Legian, Ubud, Kuta %26amp; has a charm all of it%26#39;s own.

If you can give me an idea of your budget per night I can suggest some accomodation.

Thanks Ursie, sounds like you have a passion for Bali like I do. Have stayed at Candidasa and Padagbai and Ahmed sounds similar (love it). Would like to stay somewhere in an area where one can snorkel off the beach maybe near the Lipah end but not entirely necessary. Rate per night about 300 000rp or 350 000? About how long does it take to get from Kuta to Ahmed village? Many thanks

amed is great. very different from the south being quiet, laid back with good hotels and food. heaps of things to do:

Hire local boat to sail/fish

Snorkel – coral, fish, boat wreck at aas, selang

diving

Walk around

Drive around coast towards ujung – spectacular beaches and coves, continue on and do a round trip back via mountains (tirta gangga)

Trekking – gunung seraya + villages

swimming

salt making to north

Thanks Rockterigal, sounds great. Think we will definitely spend a few days there. Thank goodness for Forums

Ursie

very comprehensive accomodation list ursie. well done. have added to my bali files. RT

Coral View Hotel is right on the beach at Lipah and has some budget rooms and a swimming pool.

Bayu cottages is not on the beach, but also has a small pool.

Good Karma bungalows are by the beach at Selang Bay but no pool..

Selang and Lipah have the best beaches and the best snorkling

Enjoy Amed, it is a wonderful part of Bali

Wow ursie, thanks a stack. Have looked at Bayu cottages and like it but wondered if there are many places (like warungs perhaps) to eat at in the immediate area. Guess one could just hire a motorbike while there anyway as it seems there is a lot to see in the area. Would you suggest Lipah or another area closer to Ahmed? Thanks for all your input great to meet people who love Bali like we do.

Thanx Rock...will send you my bill....ha ha!

Haven%26#39;t visited some of the places on my list but compiled it with help from a previous post by Kabirgirl who also loves Amed %26amp; probably knows it better than I do!

PonkySouthAfrica; didn%26#39;t include Coral View as prices on their website started at US$60 but maybe if you emailed they%26#39;d offer you a better price.

I know the area around Amed village really well as I usually stay here. There are several places to eat here including warungs within walking distance but not sure about Bayu Cottages. Maybe PM Kabirgirl, sure she%26#39;d be happy to help. Beaches are better at Lipah but i just wear footwear on beach/in water at Amed village so I don%26#39;t have to limp over the pebbles..oooohing %26amp; ahhhhing LOL!

You could hire a motorbike...just not sure where...maybe Culik or Amlapura. I can ask for you. Otherwise the locals will rent theirs out for a day or more for a small charge.I can give you a contact in Amed village if you%26#39;re interested in this option. I love travelling around Amed in the evening on the back of a scooter....makes me wish I was there now!

Wawa Wewe I has live music a couple of nights a week %26amp; I%26#39;ve always had a good night there.

If you want any info on places to visit just ask.

Cheers

Ursie
