Can somebody tell me pls. when is the mosquito season, we are going this April, I hope it%26#39;s not the season for it. Tips pls. how to avoid them. Thanks a lot.

There are mosquitoes more or less all year round, although mainly in the wet season. As April is in the wet season (or towards the end of it), I would prepare for mossies. Tips would be to wear repellent day and night (50% DEET). Avoid sitting next to still water. Head for the coast, the sea breeze usually keeps them away. Spray your room with mossie spray before going out. Burn mossie coils on an evening if sitting on a balcony. You could consider wearing long trousers and long sleeve shirts, but I think Bali%26#39;s far too hot for that. Take an after-bite pen, or failing that, if you get bitten, rub a bit of lime or lemon into the bite (preferably one that%26#39;s been soaking in gin first).

Go to any local supermart or convenience store. Buy sachets of Autan. Its a lotion that you apply to the skin. It works and locals swear by it. It costs next to nothing.

Also handy are the little electrical anti mossies device that slowly burn little blue tablets. The kit fits into the palm of your hand and costs about USD 2 .

we are there in april. we do the following to avoid problems.

use insect repellent in evening and morning. long pants when going out in evening. air con room dissuade mossies. mossie nets if in fan room. if walking through jungle area, eg monkey forest, apply repellent regularly as you will sweat it off in the humidity.

if you get bitten and a red itchy lump appears don%26#39;t scratch it as it could open and ulcerate.

We always buy Autan from Bali - we actually stock up to bring it home - works better than anything in Australia and smells wonderful. We also have Bokashi Oil from the apotech (chemist) to treat mozzie bites on our 4 year old as he reacts badly to them. It works a treat and we always bring stacks of that home too.
