Entry Ticket Prices - Samosir/Brastagi

I am trying to work out how much Indonesian Rupiah to carry for my trip to Lake Toba, Brastagi and would appreciate some information on the points below:

1. For Visa On Arrival at Medan, do they accept Indonesian Rupiah or we have to pay USD only?

2. How much does it cost for the car ferry ticket from Parapat to Samosir (one way)?

3. Roughly, what are the entry charges for various attractions at Samosir and around Brastagi (I believe the entrance tickets will not be so pricey??)

4. How much airport tax do they charge for international flights from Medan (Rp 100,000 or 75,000)?

In addition to the above -

5. How long does it take to reach Brastagi from Parapat by car? Are there any attractions on the way to stop by and see? I want to plan my departure from Lake Toba accordingly.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I can answer a couple of your queries as I have just come back from Sumatra.

Visa on arrival - USD only - $25.00.

International departure tax - rp 75,000.

Cannot help you with the other queries, my next trip to Sumatra in October this year is going to take in Lake Toba.

Hi there,

car ferry cost Rp.95.000 either way from/to ajibata (perapat) and samosir

and here is the schedule:

Trip 1 : 08.30

Trip 2 : 11.30

Trip 3 : 14.30

Trip 4 : 17.45

Trip 5 : 21.00

and about entry charges, there are a few places where you need to pay a small retribution fee for vehicle only, there aren%26#39;t much places that charge entry fee here. mostly you just go around enjoying the cultural thingy and the view, its not like we got a lot of theme park kinda attraction here :p

from perapat to berastagi it will take around 3hour by car, going trough the simarjarunjung route to reach tongging and then kabanjahe and berastagi.

if you want you can check my blog entry about my trip using this particular route here:

…blogspot.com/2008/04/little-escapism.html

if you love to take picture (or just stand there anjoy the view and soal up the atmosphere) then i belive you will e stoping alot in this route as the view is amazing (but just be careful as the road is narrow) as for attraction there are none, because its a cliff side road that run throuh small villaged and such only, but trust me, the view is a killer!

actualy...im off driving myself to samosir in a few hours from now....

sorry, the time table above is only the one from perapat to samosir, here is the one from samosir back to perapat

- Trip 1 : 07.00

- Trip 2 : 10.00

- Trip 3 : 13.00

- Trip 4 : 16.00

- Trip 5 : 19.30

Thanks Artemiofranchi. The information on ferry timings is indeed useful. Your blog is very informative too with lots of lovely pics - I felt as if I was actually at Lake Toba!

glad i can help. just got back from samosir few hour ago.

gonna blog about it in more of a travel info kinda way rather than personal travel blog this time. hope it can help more ppl that wanna come here.

cheers

Visa on arrival USD $25.00 for 30 days.

Visa on arrival USD $10.00 for 7 days.

I was there a month ago and I am sure they accepted some foreign currencies (at a bad rate). I am certain they accepted euro%26#39;s. I don%26#39;t know if they accept Indonesian rupiah. But if they accept euro%26#39;s it is likely that they will accept Singapore dollars as well.

Airport tax for international flights is Rp 75.000.

Hi,

This is Pamela- please DO NOT change your blog writing style too much- it is the charm with which you write that makes the place so appealing.

If you change your style you sound like a travel robot churning ut information and there is plenty of that already on the internet.

Some of those sites on Indonesia written by Indonesians just sound like they were copied from a book.

Travellers like myself want personal accounts of other travellers%26#39; experiences with a bit of general information thrown in as well.

Pamela.
