customs? statues on airplane?

hi there

i%26#39;ve found to small-ish bronze statues i%26#39;d like to bring home. they%26#39;ll fit in my luggage, but just so. they%26#39;re each about 18'; and heavy. i%26#39;m concerned about customs. should i claim them? usually, if it%26#39;s not a lot of money i just take my things on and pass through customs. but with two big bags and the rules the USA has about fumigation i am wondering if i should go through the bother of claiming them and go through the claims line? any suggestions?

anyone else had this dilemma? skipped customs? not? what%26#39;s the customs like upon return from indonesia?

As long as they are metal, I would assume that they would be ok.

The other alternative is to send to yourself by using DHL or Fedex, they will fumigate if they need it.

i can%26#39;t see any problem with metal. why don%26#39;t you go to the post office in bali and post them home? 20kg is the max per carton and it is a cheap alternative to risking excess luggage costs at the airport. the parcel will be fumigated by the post office and the parcel is delivered to your door. it will go through customs in your country and they will open it IF they feel the need to check the contents. i post things back to oz and have had no problems so far. there is a choice of air, sea etc and the cost varies accordingly.
