Can anyone recommend the Villa Puri Ayu

Hi, I am considering staying at the Villa Puri Ayu in the Garden 2 Bedrooms Apartment in July 2009. I have read some great reviews but also a few really bad ones (bugs, dingy rooms, Lousy breakfast, noisy, etc). I know some people like to complain understand there are a few sections some newer and nicer and some perhaps a bit old and run down. Does anyone knows more about this place and whether the Garden 2 Bedrooms Apartment is a good place for a family with 9 year old twin boys?

Can anyone recommend the Villa Puri Ayu

hi, i know villa puri ayu, i stayed a few nights there in oct 08. i cannot comment on the inside of the garden rooms as i stayed in the 4 bedroom villa. however the garden villa is in a nice area of the hotel. there is the newer %26#39;emerald wing%26#39; IF you wanted to ensure a %26#39;newer and nicer%26#39; room. however you should be happy with the 2 bedroom garden apartment.

the breakfast is fresh and there are a few things to choose from. servings are not huge but adequate and typical of a lot of hotels in bali. bacon, eggs, some nasi goreng, fruit, tea / coffee.

the hotel itself is situated down a quiet lane. from here you can walk back onto the main road where there are at least 3 good places to eat eg trophy pub, cat and fiddle etc and then there are the bemos to take you anywhere else you wish to go in sanur. to get to the beach simply walk from the hotel down the lane and through a few local stalls and you are there. along this stretch there are places to have cheap massages, and also some good cheap food at the beach side warungs. if there has been heavy rain the lane to the beach may be cut off for a few hours until the water clears. the hotel grounds are kept lovely and clean, so too is the pool area. We did find there were a few mozzies in and around our villa at times. not around the main pool and restaurant though. this can happen anywhere though. we did not have trouble with bugs in our room when we stayed there.

here are a few other places to compare which may also suit that cater for families as far as 2 bedroom or family rooms in a similar price range. sanur beach villas this place is run by an aussie expat named Ron (2 bedroom villa), stana puri gopa (they have a 2 bedroom family apartment but e mail for a price and details), palm garden hotel (hotel taman palem) 2 x 2 bedroom suites one upstairs and one down), pondok ayu, puri mesari

Can anyone recommend the Villa Puri Ayu

Thank you SnookysTravelTips for all the information, once again it is very helpfull and much appreciated.

We have stayed in the 2 bedroom garden villa at Puri Ayu and found it more than adequate. The 2 bedrooms are huge, the 2 bathrooms also huge and good working order. The Kitchen (not that we used it)was equipt with everything you would need. The lounge/dining area was large enough for 4 people to be very comfortable. You would have your own private compound with a Bale in your yard area and we find this excellent.

Whoever complained about the noise must have very sensitive hearing as we have stayed at Puri Ayu 3 times now with a 4th time booked and have never had an issue with noise, especially in the garden villas. Or maybe they were there when our big group had the 4 bedroom villa and were just unlucky, cause I imagine we may have been noisy on 1 or 2 late nights.

The braskfast is fine, some people just can%26#39;t be pleased. When we first started staying there, we thought we may get a bored with the breakfast provided in the price of the room, but as yet, that hasn%26#39;t happened.

Because some of the bathrooms are outdoor Balinese style you do have to be more concious of mossies, although the 2 bedroom garden villa does not have an outdoor bathroom so this was not an issue for us. Just remember to spray the bedrooms when you go out for dinner then close them up till you go to bed. It%26#39;s just something you have to do in tropics, part of everyday life.

In July, you will not have a problem with the road to the beach being cut off after rain, this only happens in the rainy season. We stayed there last July and the position is great for both the beach and main street for shopping and eats.

Yes the older buildings are a bit tired, but everything works and the staff are great, and we%26#39;ve stayed in 4 star resorts and paid alot more, which have been alot more tired and rundown than Puri Ayu. To be honest we like the 1 and 2 bedroom garden villas better than we liked the 4 bedroom villa and will continue to stay there and recommend it.

It is very good accommodation that gives good value for money. Some people just expect too much for the price they pay.

Do not hesitate to try the Puri Ayu, you will enjoy it. In July there is normally no rain so the mosquitoes or the flooded lane should not be a hassle. They have recently installed a drainage system in an attempt to overcome this particular problem.

I have friends who stay at Puri Ayu on a regular (3 times a year) basis and they swear by the place. I was there about 10 minutes back having a talk with them and the place looks fine to me.

As for the bad reviews about Puri Ayu, some can be ignored.

There is one particular woman who stays in various hotels around Bali and then almost blackmails the owners by threatening to write bad reports. Her aim is to get free accommodation for her return visits. Many hotel owners realise the power of the internet and bow to her threats. Others do not. Hence not all bad comments written about various places are actually correct.

This particular woman is known to many hotel owners here, she also contributes on this particular forum.

So some of the negative comments may have come from her.

Thank you everyone for your contribution and information. You have certainly convinced me that going ahead and booking the Garden 2 Bedroom Villa will be a sound decision.

I thought some of the really bad reviews for this hotel and a few others were very similar in style and content (dark, dingy, cave like, mosquitoes, etc.) so perhaps they were all written by the same person. It’s a shame some people resort to this kind of activities.

As for us, we just want a friendly and reasonable place, nothing too fancy or luxurious and from what you are all saying Villa Puri Ayou sound like a good choice.

So, thank you again for everything Erez.
