Driver's Lunch

Hi,

I%26#39;ve already hired a driver for my upcoming trip but was wondering what%26#39;s the norm when it comes to the driver%26#39;s lunch. Am I suppose to pass him money or is it already included in his fees?

Also do they go for lunch on their own or does he join us?

Driver's Lunch

The driver will usually organise his own lunch and you do not have to give him any more money. It is up to you IF you would like to either give him some money for lunch OR offer him the opportunity to eat with you. the cost of lunch is only minimal for the driver compared to your lunch as they usually buy something from a local but if he eats with you then he will be charged menu prices (still cheap). i often ask them to join us and if it is someone i have only just met i find they tend to say %26#39;no thank you%26#39; and prefer to get their own food and rest in the car while we eat. so i then offer some money.

Driver's Lunch

drivers usually buy their own lunch and accommodation for overnight trips.

i%26#39;ve offered lunch but they have never taken it up (except only once and he politely preferred to eat on his own). on longer trips we take biscuits, water and sweets. they always politely reject them except for sweets eg minties. they take the first and the second they put aside for later.

A lot of restaurants have a lunch they give (or sell very cheaply) to drivers. If the driver knows you then he will usually have lunch with you, otherwise they prefer to stay outside and chat with the other drivers - that%26#39;s how they get a lot of their news and tips on where to go, what to avoid etc etc. I have known my driver for 5 years and he always has lunch with us.

As has already been posted, by all means make the offer for them to join you for lunch, but don%26#39;t be offended if they refuse, and don%26#39;t go out of your way to always be near them when you are ready for lunch. In other words, if you off shopping etc, don%26#39;t make a special trip to go back to the car to ask the driver to lunch.

It%26#39;s usually all very relaxed, if we are nearby, we offer, they either accept or politely refuse. No need to stress.

Your driver will do whatever you wish. Our driver/tour guide Guna has become our friend. We look forward to him picking us up at the airport and spending time with him. We pay him more than he asks $50/day including gas and we nearly always ask him to join us for lunch. Often he does and we talk and share and learn more about Bali each time.

If you would like a driver like this... I would very highly recommend Guna and would be happy to pass along his information. He once told us he was Nicolas Cage%26#39;s tour guide. I believe it... he is terrific.

To the previous poster,

We%26#39;re planning to go to Bali end of March and would appreciate if you can give me contact detail of your driver.

Thanks

I sent a message to your e-mail with details of the driver we use. Just post another message if you don%26#39;t get the e-mail.
