Best beach area for mature - but not sleepy - couple

Hi - my partner and I are visiting Bali in mid April for two weeks. We are planning on staying in Ubud for the 2nd week and from your posts have located some very romantic places to stay.

But.. The first week we wanted to stay near the beach for swimming etc, where there is some life, but not Kuta excess.

So - would value your ideas on pros and cons of the different beach areas, and any tips on mid-range but romantic places to stay - about R400,000 to R800,000 level - if that sounds right.

I would suggest Legian/Seminyak or Sanur. I am in my early 50s and normally stay in the Legian area, although the Sanur area is very nice with great beaches, but it%26#39;s a bit quieter than Legian. A great hotel in Legian is the Sari Beach Hotel. It%26#39;s right on the beach, is a beautiful, boutique-style hotel, very Balinese, with magnificent tropical gardens, a pool, great restaurant and good rooms with marble bathrooms. The staff are very friendly and it%26#39;s a short walk to some great restaurants and shopping. The cost is about US $45 a night for a superior room or US $55 for a deluxe garden view room. Seminyak is the place.

Have a look at the Niksoma, it is more expensive than the Sari Beach but it is lovely.
